How to Choose the Right Exhaust Tip Size?

Choosing the right exhaust tip size is important for proper fitment, appearance, and installation. Before ordering an exhaust tip, the most important measurement is the outside diameter (OD) of your vehicle's exhaust pipe.

How to Measure Your Exhaust Pipe

Use a caliper or measuring tape to measure the outside diameter of the exhaust pipe where the exhaust tip will be installed.

For example:

• 2.0-inch exhaust pipe → choose a 2.0-inch inlet exhaust tip

• 2.25-inch exhaust pipe → choose a 2.25-inch inlet exhaust tip

• 2.5-inch exhaust pipe → choose a 2.5-inch inlet exhaust tip

• 3.0-inch exhaust pipe → choose a 3.0-inch inlet exhaust tip

The inlet diameter of the exhaust tip should match the outside diameter of the exhaust pipe unless an adapter or reducer is used.

Inlet Size vs. Outlet Size

The inlet size determines whether the exhaust tip fits your exhaust pipe.

The outlet size mainly affects the appearance of the vehicle. A larger outlet can create a more aggressive and sporty appearance, but you should always check the available space around the bumper and exhaust opening.

Check the Exhaust Tip Length

Before choosing the overall length, measure the distance between the exhaust pipe and the rear bumper.

The exhaust tip should have enough installation length for secure mounting while maintaining proper clearance from the bumper.

Weld-On vs. Clamp-On Exhaust Tips

Clamp-on exhaust tips are easier to install and remove and are suitable for many aftermarket applications.

Weld-on exhaust tips provide a permanent and secure installation and are commonly used for customized exhaust systems and professional installations.
